Assembly guide
A motorised filter wheel, made out of a manual one. Work through the chapters in order: each one starts with the parts and the tools it needs.
- 0Parts, tools and printing — the general bill of materials, what to print and how
- 1Making it fit your wheel — the parameters page: skip it if your wheel is the reference one
- 2Heat-set inserts — all the inserts, in the order that keeps the iron reachable
- 3The collar and its gaskets
- 4The spring and the connector, before the arm — with the arm in there is no room for them
- 5Arm, bearings and pivot — in from below through the electronics opening, screw already on
- 6The clutch, before the motor — on the shaft it is caged under the roof
- 7The motor, up into the clutch — through the hatch; its screws go through the clutch
- 8Setting the preload — once the arm is there to push against
- 9The board in its panel — the board drops in between the two guides
- 10The wheel body — it slides in sideways, and the magnet goes on first
- 11Setting the air gap — measured and not calculated: the glue is in the stack
- 12The sensor, and closing up — the bracket reaches over the wheel, so it goes on last
- 13First checks — before you put it on a telescope
Every picture in this guide is rendered from the CAD model of the machine, so it cannot show a part different from the one you printed. Each part keeps the same colour from the first step to the last.

Wheelly is free, and it stays free. If this guide saved you an evening, sponsoring it pays for Claude tokens, for filament, and for the parts that get printed three times before they fit.
